(&#8230;) We have a single lane Gen 2 which is used to supply USB 3.0 on the Raspberry Pi [4]. On the [Compute] Module that would be exposed to the edge connector and we\u2019re likely to support NVMe over that.<\/p><cite><strong>Eben Upton<\/strong>, CEO of Raspberry Pi Trading<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>First <strong>Rasbperry Pi 1B<\/strong> model had it&#8217;s analogy in industrial <strong>Compute Module 1<\/strong> after almost 2 years from it&#8217;s premiere. <strong>Compute Module 2<\/strong> was probably omitted because the change from <strong>RPi1<\/strong> to <strong>RPI2<\/strong> mainly involved a minor change of the processor (<strong>Cortex-A7 900MHz<\/strong>), which was almost immediately replaced with <strong>Cortex-A53 1.2GHz<\/strong> in <strong>Raspberry Pi 3<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The premiere of Compute Module 3 occured a year after RPI 3 announcement, providing a significant boost of industrial market solutions. Since <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iot-industrial-devices.com\/raspberry-pi-4-as-an-alternative-for-gateway-platform\/\">Raspberry Pi 4<\/a><\/strong> was a great success in 2019, we might see it&#8217;s equivalent in industrial series of Raspberry Pi &#8211; <strong>Compute Module 4<\/strong>. A possible <strong>release date of Raspberry Pi&#8217;s Compute Module 4 is somewhere inbetween 2020\/2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Is fast NVMe storage coming to the Raspberry Pi?\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3yTyhR0Adao?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Raspberry Pi is gaining recognition in Industry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost a year ago, in the beginning of 2019, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.raspberrypi.org\/about\/\">Raspberry Pi Foundation<\/a><\/strong> presented <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/modberry.techbase.eu\/compute-module-3\/new-modberry-options-with-raspberry-pi-compute-module-3\/\">Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3+<\/a><\/strong>, a successor to previous <strong>CM3<\/strong> version of development board, aimed at businesses and industrial users. The Compute Module uses a standard DDR2 SODIMM (small outline dual in-line memory module) form factor. GPIO and other I\/O functions are routed through the 200 pins on the board. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Only a few months later, in June 2019, came big premiere of <strong>Raspberry Pi 4 Model B<\/strong>, the long-awaited successor of customer <strong>RPi3+<\/strong>. With new processor, larger RAM options and PCIe\/NVMe support,<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iot-industrial-devices.com\/how-raspberry-pi-compute-module-4-bcm2711-might-help-iot-industrial-automation\/\"> CM4<\/a><\/strong> might be a black horse of industrial automation in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems a matter of time before the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/modberry.techbase.eu\/compute-module-3\/new-modberry-options-with-raspberry-pi-compute-module-3\/\">Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3+<\/a><\/strong> will get its own successor, called <strong>Compute Module 4<\/strong>, a new milestone of professional embedded IoT module. What might be the specification of this highly expected development board?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iot-industrial-devices.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/raspberry-pi-compute-module-3plus-1030x574.png\" alt=\"Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3+\" class=\"wp-image-5956\" width=\"515\" height=\"287\"\/><figcaption>Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3+<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 probable specification<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Compute Module 4 specifications probably will look like these:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Broadcom BCM2711, Quad core Cortex-A72 @ 1.5GHz<\/strong> will highly plausible replace previous Broadcom BCM2837B0, Cortex-A53 64-bit SoC @ 1.2GHz,<\/li><li><strong>1GB, 2GB <\/strong>or <strong>4GB LPDDR4-3200 SDRAM<\/strong> will become a standard options, instead of fixed 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM,<\/li><li><strong>PCIe\/NVMe<\/strong> support via single lane<\/li><li>Current <strong>flash memory (eMMC) options: 8GB \/ 16GB \/ 32GB<\/strong> from <strong>CM3+<\/strong> will probably stay the same,<\/li><li>weight and factor will stay the same, to provide a possibility to upgrade current IoT applications of CM3 and CM3+<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With much higher performance, the new <strong>Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4<\/strong> will, for sure, support <strong>Gigabit Ethernet<\/strong>, <strong>USB 3.0<\/strong> expansions with PCIe\/NVMe single lane. We might even see wider working temperature range, if <strong>Raspberry Pi Foundation<\/strong> decides to make some hardware changes, to follow, for example, <strong>ESP32<\/strong> &#8211; used in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iiot-shop.com\/product\/emodgate-esp32\/\">end-point IoT automation<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Industrial use of Compute Module<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iot-industrial-devices.com\/new-modberry-options-with-raspberry-pi-compute-module-3\/\">Compute Module 3+<\/a><\/strong> options from <strong>Raspberry Pi<\/strong>, TECHBASE upgraded their <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/iiot-shop.com\/product\/modberry-x\/\">ModBerry 500\/9500<\/a><\/strong> industrial computers.
